Policy

At Bognor Medical Practice, we strive to provide timely and efficient care to all our patients. Missed appointments, also known as "Did Not Attend" (DNA), significantly impact our ability to offer appointments to those in need. To ensure fair access to healthcare, we have implemented the following policy regarding DNA appointments.

What is a DNA?

A "Did Not Attend" (DNA) occurs when a patient:

  • Fails to attend a scheduled appointment without prior notice.
  • Cancels at very short notice, preventing us from offering the slot to another patient.

Our Policy on DNA Appointments

  1. First Missed Appointment
    • If a patient fails to attend an appointment without cancellation, they will receive a reminder of our DNA policy via text, email, letter, or phone call.
  2. Repeated Missed Appointments
    • If a patient DNA's twice or more within a 6 months, they may receive a formal warning.
    • We may request the patient to discuss their appointment needs with a GP or Practice Manager before further bookings.
  3. Persistent Non-Attendance
    • If a patient repeatedly fails to attend appointments, they may be asked to register with another practice.
    • Exceptions may be made for genuine emergencies or unavoidable circumstances.

How to Cancel an Appointment

We understand that circumstances can change. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please notify us as soon as possible by:

  • Calling the surgery
  • Using our online appointment system
  • Replying to appointment reminder texts

Why This Policy is Important

  • DNA appointments waste valuable GP, nurse, and clinic time.
  • DNA appointments cost £££ to the NHS and subsequently the tax payers
  • It prevents other patients from accessing care.
  • It helps us run an efficient and fair service for all.

Thank you for your cooperation in ensuring better healthcare access for everyone.
